The economic value of tourism to Australia’s economy is estimated using an internationally accepted framework – a tourism satellite account – which produces measures for tourism against gross domestic product, gross value added, trade, and employment. The Australian Bureau of Statistics produces the estimates at a national level (with input from the International Visitor Survey and National Visitor Survey) and Tourism Research Australia produces the state and tourism region estimates. DataAU have disaggregated this data based on visitation and average daily spend to produce estimates of economic value for local government areas.
